default the comment sort based on positive upvote ranking (upvote – downvote).

I don't think this would be a good idea. N4G comment sections already have a lot of circle-jerking. To the point, it's how it's mainly known for that on other websites. And making the default sorting by upvote-downvote would only exacerbate that.
